Becoming a part of the community is not only important, but vital to Islamorada Beer Company. After all, it is people and friends that brought them together and the same will keep them together. IBC Taproom in Fort Pierce is quaint enough to enjoy a quick beer after work and large enough to accommodate big parties. Be sure to check out Facebook for a calendar of regular events that take place such as Pints and Poses - a new twist on yoga, and Swig of Color, where it doesn't matter if you paint outside the lines.
The space contains a small 2BBL brewery, a small merchandise shop and a nice tasting room bar. We ordered a flight to sample the three beers they had on tap, all session ales, which were all quite good and completely appropriate for the area. While sampling we learned that due to some bizarre zoning regulations in the Keys, they are currently unable to brew on site (after further research it looks like no brewery is currently allowed to brew beer in the Florida Keys) but have their beer being brewed on contract until they sort that issue out.
Located in the Upper Florida Keys, Islamorada takes on popularity for being the fishing capital of the world. Islamorada Beer Company has been providing the locals with quality craft beer since 2014, when a group of friends were inspired to brew styles that would complement the Florida way of life. The hot weather, mixed with outdoor activities, does not change the desire to enjoy a quality brew. Ever since Islamorada Beer Company was launched, their goal was to brew beer, that was drinkable in warm weather and they have been doing so ever since.
I did not only get to sample the flagship beers, but Terry brought out a box full of different malts to smell where some of the flavor in their beers originate. She explains she is happy to do this during the tours when possible. She says it helps to educate people more about the beers they are drinking. Terry also gave me two samples of homebrews to try. They definitely tasted different but Terry clarified that they were actually the same exact beer with the main yeast strand being the only difference. Furthermore, this is done often by the brewers to see how just one difference can change the taste. I was surely duped but was so impressed with the craft beer education and genuine knowledge she provided.
During my sensory analysis test with the homebrews, the President and Brew Master, Tyrone Bradley introduced himself and spoke (in his really cool accent) about how the expansion has allowed the drinkable quality crafts to become more available statewide. Bradley also discussed how contracting the brewing out of state made the beer available until the North location opened. Everyone is stoked to celebrate the one year anniversary this August and make future plans to expand.
For years, small and independent U.S. craft breweries have been turning the beer world upside down. Their ability to take risks, innovate flavors and build better communities has made the U.S. the craft beer capital of the world.
To proudly display that independent spirit, the Brewers Association created a symbol to unify U.S. craft breweries and those who want to support them. This certified mark gives beer lovers an easy way to identify independent craft beer.

'Our first batch was a 30 barrel batch, which is quite a bit of beer to start off with for a company that didn't have a bricks and mortar brewery and was not well known,' said Herrera, a co-founder and director of sales and marketing. 'Our consultant told us it would take us six months to sell all that beer packaged and draft. We sold it in three weeks.'
With the Fort Pierce brewery, which is the largest on the Treasure Coast, they'll no longer have to contract brew and will produce 10 times more beer and grow their distribution, Herrera said. The Keys location will remain open.
'It will allow us to create more beer so we can expand our distribution, which will open doors to having the full Publix and Winn-Dixie scale,' Herrera said. 'We'll be opening full state distribution by the end of the year.'
The brewery is working with several distributors including Fort Pierce-based Southern Eagle Distributing and its beer is currently sold in more than 1,500 locations including 127 Treasure Coast bars, restaurants and stores.
'We're distributing to the West Coast from Sarasota to Naples and from Port Canaveral to Key West,' Herrera said. 'We wanted to strategically locate where it was easy for our distributors to come pick up beer and there's nothing easier than Fort Pierce.'
